Upper Sorbian Grammar

The way of constructing the future tense forms depends on the perfectiveness or nonperfectiveness of a verb.

The perfective verbs, which doesn't have the present tense at all, use the present stem and the present endings, so that the present forms are used to mark the future tense here. Compare the following examples:

the present tense

A npf. verb: pisać pisa to write

singular dual plural

1 pisam pisamoj pisamy

2 pisaš pisatej pisaće

3 pisa pisatej pisaja

the future tense

A pf. verb: napisać napisa to write

singular dual plural

1 napisam napisamoj napisamy

2 napisaš napisatej napisaće

3 napisa napisatej napisaja

The nonperfective verbs when making the future forms use the infinitive form preceeded by the future form of the być je to bee auxiliary verb.

the future tense

A npf. verb: pisać pisa to write

singular dual plural

1 budu pisać budźemoj pisać budźemy pisać

2 budźeš pisać budźetej pisać budźeće pisać

3 budźe pisać budźetej pisać budu, budźeja čitać

[ATTENTION! All written above is true for the written and oficially spoken language, but in the conversational speech both the perfective and nonperfective verbs make their future forms using the auxiliary verb być sym and the infinitive.]
